the captain's house

the captain's house, originally uploaded by Dryss.

My grandfather's great-grandfather was a NJ sea captain with the extraordinary name of Fountain Jones. He was born in 1809 and died in 1903 at the age of 94. In the mid-19th century, he built this house--which is now a lovely tea shop--in Tuckerton, NJ, which at the time was known as Clamtown. Apprently the Captain had amassed a considerable fortune, since his house was quite a bit more upscale than the dwellings of his neighbors. The trim around the peaks of the roof are maritime themed to advertise to passers-by Fountain's relationship to the sea.
